Position description
The laboratory of Dr. Xinshu (Grace) Xiao at the University of California, Los Angeles has multiple Postdoctoral openings for research on RNA biology, transcriptomics, epitranscriptomics and RNA-based precision medicine.
The Xiao Lab studies how RNA-level regulation affects gene regulatory networks at the mechanistic and systems level, how transcriptomic and epitranscriptomic alterations are implicated in cancer and Alzheimer’s disease, and how such changes may be monitored, regulated or leveraged towards precision medicine. As a hybrid experimental and computational lab, the Xiao Lab takes a multi-disciplinary approach that tightly integrates molecular biology, biochemistry, high-throughput genomics, large-scale bioinformatic data analysis, and computational method development. The Xiao Lab consists of a highly motivated multi-disciplinary team from diverse backgrounds. Strong mentorship is provided to help lab members to achieve their career goals.
Experimental RNA biology, tightly integrated with high-throughput genomics. The candidates will lead exciting projects that aim to tackle RNA-driven mechanisms underlying Alzheimer’s disease and cancer, with a focus on innate immunity. The candidates will develop and/or apply new high-throughput technologies to study RNA-protein interactions, post-transcriptional RNA regulation and RNA epitranscriptomics. The candidates will have opportunities to use CRISPR genome-editing, massively parallel reporter assays, third-generation long-read RNA-sequencing and efficient single-cell RNA-seq methods, with powerful applications in human genetic studies and precision medicine. The candidates will also work closely with computational biologists and have opportunities to learn bioinformatic skills.
Bioinformatics, computational genomics focusing on transcriptomics and epitranscriptomics. The candidates will lead exciting projects that aim to understand fundamental mechanisms that shape the transcriptome and epitranscriptome in normal and disease contexts. Innovative computational and machine learning-based approaches will be developed for analysis of high-throughput data sets, such as large-scale bulk or single-cell RNA-seq data, third-generation long RNA-seq data, CLIP-seq data in various cellular context, massively parallel screens, as well as other genomic and genetic data sets. The candidates will also work closely with experimental biologists and have opportunities to learn multi-disciplinary approaches.
